Bushey Down Farm

About Us

G Horn and Sons is a fourth generation family farming business whose family have been based at Bushey Down since 1938. Today the business is still very much a family affair, and below is a little insight into the personnel that are so key to the success of the business

Stephen Horn (Partner)

Stephen is the driving force behind the business, with an incredible attention to detail to the finest of points; he prides himself on the quality of crops grown at Bushey Down and the value added to our customers’ crops. Stephen does all the drilling, and most of the combining every year, so he knows every field on every farm as well as anyone. This gives our customers the comfort of knowing his decision making is based on sound, reasoned judgement not just on a farm by farm basis, but field by field for optimum performance.

John Horn (Partner)

John is a craftsman at his work; he is in charge of all spraying operations on the farm, one of the most important operations in the farming calendar and he takes great care and attention in the accuracy of his work. He has also been cutting and maintaining the miles of hedgerows on the farm to an immaculate standard for 40 years. His other key role is in running the family shoot with daily trips round keeping feeders topped up and the farmland and songbird population on the farm looked after through the winter months.

Kath Horn (Partner)

Mother to John and Stephen, Kath is still very active in the management of the farm, taking a keen interest in all facets of the business with daily meetings to discuss the recent events. She is a stalwart of this family business.

Christopher Horn

Chris is the fourth generation of the Horn family to be involved at Bushey Down and is the eldest son of Stephen. As a qualified chartered surveyor based with BCM LLP in Winchester, Chris has expanded the commercial property portfolio as well as introducing the renewable energy schemes to the business. Chris also takes an active involvement in the running of the business with a keen eye for cost control and forward planning.

Tony Bone

Tony has been working for the Horn family for over 45 years, while his father worked for previous generations of the family before that, so he is very much part of the family. Tony is vital to the success of the business. He is our main tractor driver for all cultivation and fertiliser application work, and he is in charge of our commercial grain drying and storage plant which is so key to maximising crop returns.
