Bushey Down Farm

As well as our arable land, we also have 16 hectares (40 acres) of downland and parkland pasture. Following the dispersal of our beef and sheep enterprises some time ago, these areas are now contract grazed by sheep from a neighbouring farmer.

With the reduction in intensification of our grazing, we have increased our efforts to improve the flora and fauna found in these fields. We now restrict our grazing periods and sward lengths during the year to encourage restoration of traditional species-rich, semi natural grassland.

A selection of the floral species we are trying to encourage include:

  • Clustered Bellflower
  • Common rock-rose
  • Cowslip
  • Fairy Flax
  • Harebell
  • Oxeye Daisy
  • Squinancywort
  • Wild Basil
